Location and attractions
How to find us
We are centrally located - close to all the facilities of the historic city of Exeter.
For convenient travel, we are just minutes away from both St David's & Central railway stations, and from the bus & coach station. Exeter International airport is about five miles from the centre of Exeter. There are frequent bus services into and around the centre and, of course, numerous taxi services.
The guesthouse is less than 1/2 mile from Exeter St David's station. From the main exit, go past the shops & across the zebra crossing into the steep St Clements Lane. At the top cross the second zebra crossing and turn right. Follow the road to the left, past the Buller statue and you will see the Clock Tower. We are just past the Clock Tower on your left. Passengers with luggage can take a taxi or bus from outside the station - simply ask for the Clock Tower.
Arriving by train
From Exeter Central station, use the Queen Street exit and turn right towards the Clock Tower which is in front of you - walk for around 200 metres and turn right at the Clock Tower - we are directly in front of you.
The Double Locks
This delightful riverside pub can be accesed by boat, car, or on foot (it's less than a thirty-minute walk from the Quay). Here you'll find a good mix of students, locals and tourists, a good selection of food and an impressive list of on-tap libations. It's not uncommon to find a number of dogs hanging out around the Double Locks waiting for their owners who often stop in for a brief rest during their afternoon and evening walks.

Exeter quay
Exeter's quayside features a unique collection of historic industrial buildings and warehouses, the main attraction being the brick built Custom House (pictured on the right). This was the first purpose built custom house in the country, constructed during the reign of Charles II. The warehouses along the quay have now been converted to a variety of antique shops, craft centres, restaurants and tea rooms.
The whole quayside has been enhanced to provide a fascinating mix of historic and contemporary design and is an ideal place to potter round the antique shops, walk and cycle, take a relaxing boat trip or find something good to eat.
There is an extensive programme of events on the River Exe, in the Transit Shed and Piazza Terracina, including dragon boat racing and art exhibitions, with plenty to occupy families and children of all ages.

The Cathedral
Exeter's beautiful cathedral was founded in 1050 and the present building was completed by about 1400. It has several notable features including an early set of misericords *, an astronomical clock and the longest uninterrupted vaulted ceiling in England.
The Cathedral building is dedicated to Peter and is generally considered to be the finest example of decorated Gothic architecture in any Cathedral.
* A misericord, sometimes named mercy seat, is a small wooden shelf on the underside of a folding seat in a church, installed to provide a degree of comfort for a person who has to stand during long periods of prayer.
